New Delhi, Mar 18: Opener Virender Sehwag has praised Shikhar Dhawan for scoring the fastest century on debut during the India-Australia third Test in Mohali. He said Dhawan "crucified" Australian bowling attack with his batting.
Left-handed Dhawan replaced Sehwag for the match and he played a superb knock of 187 in the first innings, which won praise from many.
Speaking to 'MiD-Day" newspaper on Sunday, Sehwag described Dhawan's knock as "magnificent" and went on to add that he could not recall any batsman playing such an "effortless" innings on Test debut.
"This was his first Test match, but he didn't seem overawed by the occasion and atmosphere. He just went on to play a magnificent innings," Sehwag told the newspaper.
"I cannot recall any player in world cricket playing such an effortless innings on Test debut. He crucified the Australian attack. Don't forget the pressure of a 400-plus score by the opposition on the opening batsman. I'm really proud of our very own Shikhar. I have played a lot with him for Delhi and North Zone but I've never seen him play such a beautiful innings. He is bindaas and this reflected in his innings," he added.
