Pietersen out of IPL 6 with knee injury

Wellington, Mar 20: England batsman Kevin Pietersen has been ruled out of the last Test against New Zealand and the upcoming Indian Premier League season due to a right knee injury.

Pietersen felt pain in his right knee while fielding in preparation for a 4-day game in Queenstown earlier this month and the scan showed "bone bruising and possible cartilage damage to the knee cap," the England and Wales Cricket board confirmed.

Pietersen is set to return to England and continue further tests and scans and is expected to be sidelined for six to eight weeks, which would keep him out of IPL.

The last test between England and New Zealand starts on Friday while IPL 6 starts on April 3.
