Bangalore, Mar 22: The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) on Thursday (March 21) launched its summer coaching initiative. Anil Kumble, KSCA President, Javagal Srinath, KSCA Secretary and GR Viswanath, Chairman, RC-KSCA Academy dwelt at length on how the RC-KSCA Academy has grown in strength in terms of high-quality infrastructure, qualified coaching personnel and in reaching out to youngsters aspiring to play cricket the right way.
The biggest attraction for those selected for the Summer Camps, being held at 41 centres this year, up from 30 last year, is the chance to be picked for the year-long programs at the full-fledged centres in Bangalore, Mysore, Mangalore, Hubli, Shimoga, Davangere and Hassan, a media release from KSCA stated.
The year-long academy not only has the boys training in state-of-the-art centres but also uses technology extensively in order that the trainees can see for themselves what they are doing which serves to eliminate any of the losses that usually occur in translation.
"Grassroots cricket, be it tournaments at the school and college level or camps such as the Summer Camps that are all set to start, is one of key focus areas and we at the KSCA have pulled no stops in ensuring that aspiring cricketers will have access to the best in terms of coaching and infrastructure," said KSCA President Anil Kumble.
"In terms of coaching, not only have we ensured that all our coaches are qualified, their training has been such that everyone will speak in one voice, ie., speak the same language. In fact, as part of our Coaches Education Program, our Academy has educated as many as 250 coaches. It's an ongoing process," explained GR Viswanath, the Chairman of the RC-KSCA Academy.
"For us it's about reaching out and enabling anyone with cricketing talent and ability to take part in our programs. To that end we are enhancing our infrastructure in two phases --- we have already ensured that those who get picked for the year-long program will train in the best of conditions. Our next aim is to expand such facilities to the larger number who attend our summer camps," said Javagal Srinath, KSCA Secretary.
"It is important to note that these summer camps across Karnataka provide us our main base for our clubs, who play an important role at the grass roots level. I expect our club secretaries to watch the boys at the camps and sign them up. The summer camps will also act as a feeder system for our year-long programs," added Srinath.
