Teams to BCCI: Axe Chennai as IPL venue

Bangalore, Mar 23: Indian Premier League (IPL) teams want the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to move IPL 6 matches out of Chennai, according to a media report published on Saturday.

According to a report in "Mumbai Mirror" at least six teams have written or in the process of writing to BCCI to axe Chennai as an IPL venue due to anti-Sinhala sentiments in Tamil Nadu.

Also, the report added that teams were sent an informal advisory to not include Sri Lankan players in their line-ups.

Most of the nine franchises have Sri Lankan cricketers in their squads with Mahela Jayawardene captaining Delhi Daredevils.

In 2010, Hyderabad was dropped from the venues list for the now defunct Deccan Chargers due to Telangana issue.

"Apply the same yardstick here, too," said an official from a top franchise to "Mumbai Mirror".

IPL 6 will start on April 3.

List of Sri Lankan players in IPL 6

Kolkata Knight Riders: Sachithra Senanayake

Chennai Super Kings: Akila Dananjaya and Nuwan Kulasekara
