Bangalore, Apr 11. It was not good to see this incident on the field on Thursday evening in IPL 2013. Delhi boys Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir were involved in an ugly on-field spat during the Royal Challengers Bangalore-Kolkata Knight Riders match here at M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Though it is not clear who triggered the ugly scenes, it was definitely not good for the spirit of the game. Kohli and Gambhir exchanged words and another Delhi player Rajat Bhatia had to intervene to stop the incident further going out of control.
This incident happened during RCB's 10th over. It all started when Kohli was dismissed by Lakshmipathy Balaji and as Kohli turned towards the pavilion and started walking, Gambhir seemed to have said something which made Kohli furious. Then, Kohli charged back towards Gambhir and the left-hander too angrily walked towards Kohli.
In the previous over to his dismissal, Kohli had smashed a four and two sixes off paceman Pradeep Sangwan which might have upset Gambhir.
The way the duo was charging towards each other it looked like they were ready for a fight. And in the nick of time Bhatia came in between the warring captains and sent Kohli on his way to the dressing room. The umpires and KKR players too joined to defuse the tension.
At the end of the match, which RCB won by eight wickets, both Kohli and Gambhir shook hands.
When both were asked in the post-match presentation, they played it down. "It's done, what is done on the field is done (spat)," said Kohli.
"It happens in the heat of the moment. We don't need to carry it off the field. It is a tough sport, no love lost," reacted Gambhir.
