Bangalore, Apr 15: Former India batsman GR Viswanath inaugurated Karnataka State Cricket Association's (KSCA) cricket facility in Jayanagar here on Sunday (April 14), in preparation for the annual Summer Camp coaching programme for boys Under-14, Under-16 and Under-19 to be conducted from today (April 15) to May 23.
This facility at 3rd block, Jayanagar (behind Cosmopolitan Club), will provide cricket pitches and nets par excellence to groom talent in the proximity of Jayanagar.
KSCA Secretary Javagal Srinath and other officials from the association attended the inaugural function on Sunday morning.
Following on from the previous year, the KSCA has persistently increased its catchment area to spot talent in Karnataka. After successfully conducting open trials, the KSCA will provide an avenue for active participation in sports and simultaneously, the means to nurture talent to new heights.
After the inauguration, Viswanath said: "The boys will get very good exposure at this venue which is very familiar to everybody as Madhavan Park and extremely well located. The area around here needed an additional facility like this which is very special. It's also a coincidence that Anil Kumble who is at the helm of affairs as president of the KSCA started playing his cricket here as a young boy. The current leadership is creating good infrastructure in Karnataka and in all corners of Bangalore."
Former India stumper Syed Kirmani, who was also present, said: "This cricket facility is a welcome addition in Jayanagar and has a legacy - It is in the ground where former Indian players such as Kumble, BS Chandrasekhar and GR Viswanath played in their formative years. May their tribe increase! Many facilities have come up across Bangalore and Karnataka. Jayanagar has produced much talent in the past and we hope more boys in the nearby localities find convenience in playing competitive cricket here."
KSCA is holding free summer coaching camps for kids at various grounds of Karnataka.
