Bangalore, Apr 17: Did Delhi Daredevils and South Africa paceman Morne Morkel bowl the fastest ball in cricket history on Tuesday night (April 16) during the IPL 2013 game? Well, if you go by the speed gun's reading at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, he did bowl the fastest delivery in the history. Morkel's speed was recorded at 173.9 kph!
Morkel bowled the second over of DD innings in the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore which ended in a Super Over with the home team winning. When Morkel bowled, on the TV screen we saw the speed flashing as 173.9 kph!
Seeing this on TV, Morkel's South African team-mate Dale Steyn was quick to tweet on this. He wrote on his twitter page (@DaleSteyn62): "Did @mornemorkel65 just bowl 173.9kmh??? Haha! He's quick but that's real QUICK!."

In another tweet, he added the TV screen shot where the speed was shown. "This is what mornemorkel65 is capable of!!! Bring the heat!!! Haha."
The fastest recorded speed by a bowler is 160.3 kph by Pakistan's former paceman Shoaib Akhtar.
Whether Morkel really bowled the ball at that speed of over 170 or was it an error?
