Morne Morkel out of Champions Trophy

London, June 7: South Africa fast bowler Morne Morkel has been ruled out of the remainder of Champions Trophy 2013 due to an injury to his left quad, Cricket South Africa (CSA) said on Friday.

Morkel, who sustained an injury during the team's opening match against India in Cardiff on Thursday (June 6), will be replaced by Chris Morris. The Event Technical Committee of Champions Trophy has approved Morkel's replacement.

Right-arm fast bowler Morris had a good tournament with Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League. He will leave South Africa this evening to join his team-mates in England. Morris, 26, has not played ODIs and has featured in 2 T20 Internationals for the Proteas.

Morkel could not complete his quota of overs against India and pulled out during his 7th over. South Africa lost that game by 26 runs. South Africa were also without Dale Steyn in the opener. Steyn too was injured and is expected to play in next match.

South Africa's next Group B match is against Pakistan on June 10.
