New Delhi, June 10: The Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) here Monday elected Ravi Sawant as the new treasurer of the cricket board.
"Ravi Sawant is the new treasurer replacing (Ajay) Shirke," a BCCI official told reporters here.
Shirke quit his post along with secretary Sanjay Jagdale May 31 in the wake of the IPL spot fixing scandal. Sawant is currently the president of Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA).
Earlier, Karnataka State Cricket Association treasurer Tallam Venkatesh was set to take up the post but due to technical reasons his named had to be dropped.
"For office-bearers, you needed to have attended at least two AGMs but when they realised that wasn't the case, the name (Venkatesh) had to be taken back," "Hindustan Times" quoted an unnamed official.
"Some people are arguing that since this was an interim arrangement, the rules could have been relaxed."
