Hyderabad, July 2: Batsman Ambati Rayudu said he was "surprised" to receive a call-up to the Indian team in place of the injured captain MS Dhoni in the Caribbean.
On Monday (July 1), the selectors picked Rayudu as Dhoni's replacement for the ongoing Celkon Mobile Cup tri-series. Dhoni was ruled out of the remainder of the tournament due to a hamstring injury.
"I am very excited about the prospect of donning the National colours. It has come as a surprise to me," Rayudu was quoted as saying in "The Times of India".
"It is very unfortunate that Dhoni has suffered an injury. It is not the best of circumstances to get a call but I look forward to the series," the right-hand batsman added.
Uncapped Rayudu plays for Baroda in the Ranji Trophy. In the Indian Premier League, he is part of Mumbai Indians franchise.
