Mumbai, July 5: MS Dhoni was rested from India's tour to Zimbabwe. Virat Kohli will captain the side in the five One Day Internationals starting on July 24. Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane returned to the side while Jammu and Kashmir's spinner Parvez Rasool and Haryana paceman Mohit Sharma made it to the Indian team for the first time.
The BCCI selectors met in Mumbai on Friday to pick the squad. Kohli, who is currently leading the side in the Celkon Mobile Cup tri-series in the Caribbean, will continue to be at the helm in the five ODIs in Zimbabwe.
Dhoni was ruled out of the tri-series due to hamstring injury. Ishant Sharma, Ravichandran Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Umesh Yadav have been rested, said a BCCI statement on Friday.
Murali Vijay was dropped from the squad. Rasool is the first player from Jammu and Kashmir to make it to the national side. He has had a fine domestic season and this year he played for Pune Warriors in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Mohit too had a good Ranji Trophy and also IPL with Chennai Super Kings.
