Port of Spain, July 6: India captain Virat Kohli has surpassed Yuvraj Singh in One Day Internationals. The young batsman left Yuvraj behind during his 102-run knock against West Indies in the Celkon Mobile Cup on Friday (July 5).
Kohli hit his 14th ODI century to go past Yuvraj. The left-hander has scored 13 tons. Kohli is also ahead of Gautam Gambhir (11) and Rahul Dravid (12).
The right-hander is now one century away from equalling Virender Sehwag (15). Kohli has moved to 4th in India's most century-makers in the 50-over format.
The 24-year-old made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka in 2008. Since then, his rise has been meteoric. He already has 14 hundreds in 106 games while Sehwag has played 241 for his 15.
The way Kohli is amassing runs at the international level, it will not be far away from him to catch up with Sourav Ganguly, who is on 22 hundreds. However, the leader Sachin Tendulkar is out of reach at the moment. Tendulkar ended his ODI career with 49 tons.
On Friday, Kohli's hundred was his first as India skipper. It was only his second game in-charge and he showed his class yet again. His 102 powered India to victory.
