Port of Spain, July 11: Sri Lanka's Mahela Jayawardene will become the third player in the history of One Day Internationals to feature in 400 matches when he takes the field today against India in the final of the Celkon Mobile Cup tri-series here.
Jayawardene will be the third in the elite 400-club after Sachin Tendulkar and Sanath Jayasuriya.
India's Tendulkar leads the table with 463 matches while Sri Lankan Jayasuriya played in 445 ODIs. Tendulkar retired from ODIs last year while the left-handed Jayasuriya bid adieu to the 50-over game in 2011.
Jayawardene made his ODI debut against Zimbabwe in 1998 in Colombo. The right-hander has also captained Sri Lanka.
The 36-year-old, one of the finest batsmen in the world, has also played in 138 Tests.
So far, he has scored 11,237 runs in ODIs and 10,806 in Tests.
