Dravid, Kumble and Srinath bat for Test cricket

Bangalore, July 16: The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has provided the perfect platform for teams to prepare for Ranji Trophy 2013-14. KSCA is conducting a four-day Safi Darashah Trophy 2013 which will see 16 teams in action from July 17 to August 13.

KSCA president Anil Kumble, secretary Javagal Srinath, Rahul Dravid and other former cricketers in the state have come together to preserve Test cricket amid growing popularity of Twenty20s. Srinath, on Monday evening (July 15) gave out the details of the tournament.

Some of the top domestic cricketers and also India internationals will be seen in action in Bangalore and Mysore.

With the focus on the longer version, KSCA's tournament is the only four-day competition in India other than Ranji Trophy.

KSCA has fielded four teams while Jharkhand, Goa, Rajasthan, Bengal, Kerala, Tripura, Baroda, Andhra, Assam, Saurashtra, Orissa and Haryana are also in the fray.

The teams are divided into four groups with the toppers making the semi-finals.

The tournament has its own uniqueness with the cricket committee of KSCA coming up with new set of rules.

Safi Darashah was a first-class cricketer for Mysore state in the 1930s. He led Mysore in the Ranji Trophy from 1939-40 to 1945-46. KSCA has instituted a trophy in his name for his meritorious service to cricket. Darashah played 24 first-class games.

The rules of the tournament

First innings of each team restricted to maximum of 120 overs

Second innings - 60 overs

If a team is all out for less than 120 overs in 1st innings, the remaining number of overs will be carried over to their 2nd innings (not applicable in case of declaration)

390 minutes (6 hours and 30 minutes) of play on each day

Play can be extended for 30 minutes beyond the scheduled time to complete stipulated number of overs for the day

To prevent negative bowling, a marking is made 12 inches from the return crease which be the reference to call Wide

Point System

Outright win - 5 points

Innings win/10-wicket victory - 1 bonus point

First innings lead but no outright win - 3

First innings lead but outright loss - 2

Loss on first innings - 1

Tie on first innings without outright win - 2 points each

Tie on both innings - 3 each

Outright loss - 0

Washout/Weather interference with none of the above possible - 2 each

Pools (Group A, B and D play in Bangalore. Group C matches in Mysore)

Group A: KSCA XI, Jharkhand CA, Goa CA, Rajasthan CA

Group B: KSCA President's XI, Bengal CA, Kerala CA, Tripura CA

Group C: KSCA Secretary's XI, Baroda CA, Andhra CA, Assam CA

Group D: KSCA Colts, Saurashtra CA, Orissa CA, Haryana CA
