Sri Lanka Premier League cancelled

Colombo, July 17: The second edition of Sri Lanka Premier League (SLPL) Twenty20 tournament this year has been cancelled due to lack of investors.

According to a report in the local newspaper "Daily Mirror" today, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) took the decision to call off the League after an emergency meeting between the cricket board and tournament organiers Somerset Entertainment Ventures (SEV) at SLC headquarters on Tuesday (July 16).

"Lack of interest by prospective buyers to invest in the franchises has been the reason for the cancellation," a top SLC official was quoted as saying in the report.

SLPL was started last year with Uva Next franchise winning the inaugural edition. There were 7 teams in the league.
