Melbourne, July 23: The Melbourne Renegades today confirmed the signing of Sri Lankan spin legend Muttaiah Muralitharan, Australian Test bowlers Peter Siddle and James Pattinson for this year's Twenty20 Big Bash League (BBL 3).
Test cricket's leading wicket-taker Muralitharan has returned to the Renegades with a 1-year contract while Pattinson and Siddle have inked two-year deals.
"I think we've got a fantastic team on the field and ... this year with a few more people coming in, expect some fiery, fast spells," Pattinson said.
Siddle said he focused on building his credentials and gaining more match experience in the T20 arena.
"I want to get back into playing short-form cricket. To have that opportunity again in four over bursts, having a crack and getting the pace up there ... I think it'll be a lot of fun," he said.
Renegades CEO Stuart Coventry was delighted to welcome Muralitharan back to the team along with Fawad Ahmed, the Pakistan refugee spinner who was recently granted Australian citizenship.
"It's great to have them both back in the Renegades jersey," he said.
"Murali is still going strong and was our leading bowler last season with 11 wickets. When you have someone like him going for less than six runs an over you expect he'll play a key role again.
"As for Fawad, he keeps going from strength to strength. He has outstanding control and knows his game extremely well."
BBL 3 will begin on December 20.
