Jackson Bird to fly home from Ashes

Melbourne, Aug 23: Australia paceman Jackson Bird will return home from the Ashes series against England to receive treatment for a back injury, Cricket Australia (CA) said on Thursday (August 22).

"Jackson has had low back pain over the past week of The Ashes tour and will return to Australia today (Thursday) to begin the process of investigating the source of the pain and rehabilitation," Australian team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said in a statement.

Bird is the second Australian player to return home due to injury after Ashton Agar.

England have won the 5-match Ashes series 3-0. The fifth and final Test is under way at The Oval.
