Hyderabad, Sep 2: The Champions League 2013 qualifying stage matches have been moved from Hyderabad to Mohali, it was announced on Monday. Hyderabad has been dropped as a CLT20 venue due to security reasons.
The CLT20 qualifiers and main draw matches were to be held in Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium but due to security reasons, the matches have been shifted. Hyderabad had been allotted 12 matches and those will now be shared between Mohali, Ahmedabad and Ranchi.
"The police officials have conveyed to us their inability to provide security on those dates and we're awaiting a written confirmation of the same," Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) secretary MV Sridhar had said in a media report few days ago. The state police had refused to provide security for the matches as the dates clashed with Ganesha immersion in the city. Ganesh festival falls on September 9 and the celebrations are expected to carry on for more than a week.
According to the changes in the CLT20 schedule, which were released on Monday, Mohali's PCA Stadium will host the qualifiers from September 17 to 20.
The main draw matches in Hyderabad were shifted to Ranchi and Ahmedabad. The main draw will start on September 21 and the final is scheduled for October 6.
"Qualifiers and the double header (DH) on 24th moves to Mohali, 28th DH to Ranchi and 30th DH to Ahmedabad @clt20," tweeted Sundar Raman, COO of Indian Premier League (IPL), on Monday.
