Delhi Daredevils announced the appointment of Kirsten on the micro-blogging site Twitter. "The #DelhiDaredevils is delighted to welcome @Gary_Kirsten as Head Coach. He will work with Team Mentor TA Sekar and Eric Simons. #apnemunde," DD tweeted on Tuesday.

In another tweet, they added: "The Head Coach @Gary_Kirsten says he heard many positives about the franchise's values and beliefs. #delhidaredevils."

Kirsten tweeted: "Looking forward to a new journey with @DelhiDaredevils".

The left-handed South African was also the coach of his national team. He quit after the Champions Trophy in England this year. Kirsten took South Africa to No. 1 position in Tests.

Delhi Daredevils had a poor IPL this year. They finished at the bottom of the points table with just three wins from 16 matches. They had roped in Vivian Richards as a mentor for IPL 6.
