Edinburgh (Scotland), Sep 4: Big hundreds from openers Aaron Finch and Shaun Marsh powered Australia to a 200-run victory over Scotland in the one off One Day International here at the Grange Cricket Club Ground on Tuesday (September 3).
Finch and Marsh both recorded their highest ODI scores. Finch made 148 while Marsh hit 151. They had a record opening stand of 246 in 38.2 overs that took Australia to a commanding 362/3 in 50 overs.
The stand of 246 was a Australian record for the first wicket, eclipsing 212 of Geoff Marsh and David Boon against India in 1986. Overall, 246 is second highest partnership for any wicket for Australia (252 is the highest between Ricky Ponting and Shane Watson against England for second wicket in 2009).
In reply, the hosts folded for 162 in 43.5 overs. Left-arm paceman Mitchell Johnson took four wickets.
Finch, who recently hit a world record T20I score of 156, continued the same form. His 148 came off 116 balls with 16 boundaries and 7 sixes. Left-handed Marsh took 149 balls for his 151 with the help of 16 boundaries and 5 sixes.
Australia will now play England in a five-match ODI series starting on September 6 in Leeds.
