Batsmen fail as India A lose second one-dayer

Bangalore, Sep 17: It was a new day and a different result at the same venue. India A batsmen could not repeat what they did two days back as they failed to chase 280 in the second one-day against West Indies A.

Riding on Jonathan Carter's century, West Indies A won by 55 runs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Tuesday to level the three-match series 1-1. The final one-day will be at the same ground on Thursday (September 19).

Batsmen fail as India A lose

In the first one-day on Sunday, India A batsmen had made merry scoring 312/4 in 42 overs. Captain Yuvraj Singh had blasted an 89-ball 123 and Yusuf Pathan 70 off 32. The result was a 77-run thrashing for the visitors.

Today, Yuvraj top scored for the hosts with just 40 while Yusuf collected a golden duck. Both batsmen fell off successive deliveries to left-arm spinner Nikita Miller. India A were bowled out for 224 in 48.4 overs.

Right-arm opening fast bowler Miguel Cummins was the bowling hero for West Indies A. He took 4/31 in 10 overs. Carter took two wickets after scoring a century.

Earlier, left-hander Carter's fine century helped West Indies A to 279/6 in 50 overs against India A in the second one-dayer here at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Tuesday. Carter was dropped on six by Yusuf off left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem.

Carter (133) hit his maiden List A hundred to lead the visitors' recovery after they were in trouble at 112/4 in 27.5 overs.

The 25-year-old from Barbados reached to his hundred in 117 balls. He got to the three-figure mark with a single off Sumit Narwal in the 44th over. His previous highest score in 31 List A matches was 71.

Carter, in the company of another left-hander Leon Johnson (39), had a 131-run partnership in 18.1 overs for the fifth wicket which was crucial in West Indies A going past 250 runs.

From 182/4 in 40 overs, West Indies A scored 97 runs in the final 10 overs.

Carter was out for 133 off 132 balls with 18 boundaries and three sixes. He was trapped LBW by Jaydev Unadkat in the 49th over.

R Vinay Kumar was the most successful bowler for India A with three wickets. His figures were 3/56 in 10 overs. Yusuf Pathan took two while Unadkat had one.
