Lions-Perth match abandoned due to rain

Ahmedabad, Sep 23: The Champions League 2013 Group A match between Highveld Lions and Perth Scorchers was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to heavy rain here at Sardar Patel Stadium on Monday.

Both teams collected two points apiece. Soon after the toss, which Lions won, heavy showers started. There was no possibility of play as the umpires and players waited for more than an hour. At 5.10 PM IST, play was called off.

Earlier, Lions captain Alviro Petersen had won the toss and decided to field. Both teams were playing their first match of the tournament.

At the same venue today, Mumbai Indians will face Otago Volts from 8 PM IST. Rain threatens to play spoilsport for that game too.
