Mysore, Sep 25: Captain Kirk Edwards and Kraigg Brathwaite missed out on centuries as India A and West Indies A shared honours on the opening day of the four-day match here at the Gangotri Glades on Wednesday.
At stumps on the first day, West Indies A were 264/5 in 90 overs. Edwards made 91 while opener Brathwaite hit 92. India A skipper Cheteshwar Pujara had won the toss and chosen to field.
For the hosts, offspinner Parvez Rasool was the highest wicket-taker with 2/60 in 27 overs.
Paceman Mohammed Shami struck early in the third over by dismissing opener Kieran Powell for a five-ball duck. Edwards and Brathwaite joined hands to recover from the early loss.
Edwards and Brathwaite put on 174 runs for the second wicket. Ishwar Pandey sent back Edwards for 91 (162 balls, 11x4, 1x6) to end this strong association. Edwards had hit a ton in the three-match one-day series between the sides in Bangalore.
Brathwaite also missed out on a hundred when he fell to Rasool. His 215-ball stay at the crease contained 12 boundaries.
Rajat Paliwal took the other wicket to fall on the day. He removed Leon Johnson LBW for 10.
This is a three-match series.
