Dhaka, Oct 3: A fast bowler from Bangladesh has entered the record books by conceding the most number of runs in a single over in a 50-over game recently.
The Dhaka Premier Division match saw 21-year-old Alauddin Babu give away 39 runs in an over. He was representing Abahani Limited against Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club.
Babu, who was given the ball to bowl the 50th and final over the innings, started off with a no-ball which went for five runs. The batsman on strike was Zimbabwe Test player Elton Chigumbura.
The second ball was a wide followed by 6, 4, 6, 4, 6, Wide and again a 6.
At the end of the innings, Babu was hammered for the 93 runs in 10 overs for 1 wicket. The match played on October 1 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium. Babu's team lost by 28 runs.
Babu's 39-over is a world record for most runs scored in one over List A cricket. The previous worst was 36 by Netherlands' legspinner Dan van Bunge, who was smashed by South Africa's Herschelle Gibbs for 36 runs (six successive sixes) during the 2007 World Cup.
