Pujara joins Bradman with third triple ton

Hubli, Oct 11: Cheteshwar Pujara joined Sir Don Bradman, Brian Lara and other greats when he notched up his third first-class triple hundred here on Friday.

Pujara hit 306 not out for India A against West Indies A on the third day of the unofficial Test. India A declared at 564/9 in 150 overs with a lead of 296. At stumps, the visitors were 116/3 in 35 overs.

The Saurashtra batsman is only the second Indian to construct three triple hundreds. His team-mate Ravindra Jadeja was the first from India.

Bradman leads the list to most triple tons in first-class with six. Bill Ponsford and Wally Hammond struck four each while WG Grace, Graeme Hick, Lara, Michael Hussey and Jadeja have three apiece.

Today's knock was Pujara's second triple century in this year. During the Ranji Trophy match against Karnataka, he had scored 352.

India A captain Pujara hit 33 boundaries in his 415-ball knock. He batted nearly 10 hours for the record equalling knock.

The right-handed batsman has been a prolific run scorer at the domestic level. Overall, this is Pujara's sixth triple hundred in all forms of cricket. He had three triple centuries, one each in Under-14, Under-19 and Under-22 cricket.
