Sachin Tendulkar to play Ranji Trophy

Mumbai, Oct 16: Sachin Tendulkar will play for Mumbai in this season's Ranji Trophy opener ahead of his final two Tests against the West Indies next month.

Tendulkar has made himself available to play in the Ranji Trophy 2013-14 opener for Mumbai against Haryana in Lahli from October 27 to 30, Mumbai Cricket Association's (MCA) joint secretary Nitin Dalal has confirmed.

"Sachin will be playing the Ranji tie against Haryana. This will not only serve as a warm up opportunity for him but also become a great boost for rest of the playing squad," Dalal was quoted as saying by the media on Tuesday (October 15).

India's two-Test series against West Indies will begin in Kolkata on November 6. The second and final Test will be held in Mumbai from November 14.

Tendulkar will retire from cricket after the second Test, which will be Master Blaster's world record 200th Test.

Last year too, Tendulkar turned up for Mumbai in Ranji Trophy. He played four matches including the final which Mumbai won against Saurashtra. Since making his first-class debut for Mumbai against Gujarat in 1988 at Wankhede Stadium, he has featured in 37 Ranji Trophy games for his Mumbai side.
