Sydney, Oct 24: Former Australian captain Richie Benaud was injured in a car accident in Sydney on Thursday.
Benaud, one of the best known voices in cricket commentary, was driving alone in his car and hit a small brick wall, according to a statement released by Channel Nine.
The 83-year-old Benaud is part of Australia's Channel Nine commentary team.
Benaud suffered chest and shoulder injuries and is recovering at a Sydney hospital.
"No one else was injured, and I was more worried about the car than myself," said Benaud about his 1963 Sunbeam Alpine.
"Richie's remarkable," Benaud's wife Daphne was quoted as saying in the media. "At first I was quite concerned but today he's looking unbelievably well."
Nine Entertainment CEO, David Gyngell, said: "Richie is a national treasure. In the Nine family, he sits at the head of the table. As always he and Daphne have our support and Richie will return to call the coming Ashes series against England - his 36th summer in Nine's Wide World of Sports commentary box - when he is good and ready."
