Mumbai, Oct 26: Former India captain Anil Kumble will deliver the second annual Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi Memorial Lecture in Mumbai on November 13.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Saturday that Kumble has been chosen to deliver the lecture, which will be attended by India and West Indies Test teams.
India and West Indies will play the second and final Test of the two-match series in Mumbai from November 14. This will be Sachin Tendulkar's historic 200th and final Test.
"Anil Kumble, former India captain, will deliver the second annual Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi Memorial Lecture, at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, 13 November 2013, at the Crystal Room, The Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai," BCCI's secretary Sanjay Patel said in a media release.
"It will be a great honour to deliver the second MAK Pataudi Memorial Lecture. Tiger Pataudi was one of those who shaped the history of Indian cricket, by leading from the front. We will always be indebted to him for his impact on Indian cricket, as a player and leader," Kumble said.
Pataudi, known to the cricketing world as 'Tiger,' represented India in 46 Tests from 1961-62 to 1974-75, and scored 2,793 runs, inclusive of six centuries.
He captained the national side in forty Tests, and was in charge when India registered their first-ever Test series win on foreign soil, in New Zealand in 1967-68.
He was one of those who with his accomplishments and encouragement to the country's junior cricketers in the 1960s, helped lay the foundation for India's rise as a cricketing power in subsequent decades. The memorial lecture is a humble recognition of his contribution to the sport.
The Lecture will be also be attended by the members of the Pataudi family, former India captains, cricketers who played Tests alongside and under Pataudi, current and former office-bearers of the BCCI, senior representatives of the BCCI's Affiliated Units, and other select invitees.
The Lecture will be telecast live on the Star Sports Network, and streamed lived on www.bcci.tv.
The inaugural Pataudi lecture was delivered by Sunil Gavaskar in February in Chennai.
