Come Saturday (November 2), Kohli will be the cynosure of all eyes at his IPL homeground M Chinnaswamy Stadium here.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore's captain is 81 runs away in the next match from breaking Richards record to fastest 5,000 ODI runs.
Currently at 4,919 runs in 112 innings, Kohli needs to score 81 in Bangalore in the seventh and final ODI against Australia to surpass the legendary West Indian batsman.
Richards took 114 innings to reach the 5,000-run milestone. Kohli can better it in Bangalore or match him after this series against West Indies.
"I have always liked batting under lights and when I have a target on the board it is always easy to analyse how many runs you need and at what point of time," said Kohli in Nagpur.
The Delhi youngster has so far scored 11 tons while chasing and all those have resulted in India's wins.
The 24-year-old has already been the quickest to score 15 ODI tons, 4,000 runs and also last night became the fastest to 17 hundreds.
Kohli is all set to be the fastest to 5,000-run club from India. Former captain Sourav Ganguly took 126 visits to the crease to reach there.
