Melbourne, Nov 1: All available tickets for the first day of the Ashes Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) have been sold out, setting the scene for an incredible day at the cricket and the potential of a world record breaking crowd, Cricket Australia (CA) announced on Friday.
MCG will host the fourth Ashes Test between Australia and England from December 26. All tickets that went on sale on 23 October 2013 have been snapped up by the fans.
The impressive ticket sales for Day 1 of the Boxing Day Test have raised the possibility of a new world record for crowd attendance at a single day of cricket, eclipsing the attendance of 90,800 during the Australia versus West Indies Test at the MCG in 1961, CA added.
The seating capacity at MCA is 100,000, according to its website.
Cricket Australia's Executive General Manager Operations, Mike McKenna, said the ticket sales for Day 1 of the Commonwealth Bank Ashes Boxing Day Test have set the scene for an incredible start to the match.
"It has been fantastic to see the strong demand for tickets to the Commonwealth Bank Ashes Boxing Day Test, with fans eager to catch the cricket action and soak up the great match atmosphere. The demand for Day 1 tickets in particular has been impressive and there is a great chance that we will see the world record, for crowd attendance at a single day of cricket, broken on the day," McKenna said.
"As well as the Commonwealth Bank Ashes Boxing Day Test, Melbourne fans can also get tickets to see Australia take on England in the Carlton Mid One Day International Series and KFC T20 INTL Series matches."
