Bangalore, Nov 4: Robin Uthappa will miss Karnataka's opening match of the Ranji Trophy 2013-14 season due to an injury. The squad led by R Vinay Kumar will launch campaign against Jharkhand in Mysore on November 7.
The selectors announced a 15-man squad on Sunday (November 3). They have rewarded batsmen Mayank Agarwal and R Samarth for good showing in various tournaments.
"Agarwal, a batsman in the same aggressive mould as Robin Uthappa, was thought to be an ideal replacement for the injured Uthappa, who is nursing a tender hamstring, while right-handed youngster Samarth comes in for the left-handed Amit Verma from last season's squad. Verma was discussed at length by the selectors before they plumped for Samarth," said Karnatka State Cricket Association secretary Javagal Srinath.
Karnataka are in Group A with Mumbai, Punjab, Gujarat, Delhi, Odisha, Haryana, Vidarbha and Jharkhand.
