Kolkata, Nov 6: It was advantage India on the first day of the opening Test against West Indies here at Eden Gardens on Wednesday.
Debutant fast bowler Mohammed Shami was the star of the day with a four-wicket haul. His outstanding spell of reverse-swing bowling sent West Indies tumbling to 234 all out in 78 overs.
The visitors' captain Darren Sammy had won the toss and opted to bat. After progressing to 107/2 by lunch, the visitors collapsed.
For less than 100 runs, they lost eight wickets (from 138/2 to 234 all out). Sachin Tendulkar, playing his 199th and penultimate Test of career, also had one scalp.
