Kolkata, Nov 7: After struggling in the first two sessions, India were pushed into a strong position by Rohit Sharma's magnificent unbeaten century on debut on the second day of the first Test against West Indies.
Offspinner Shane Shillingford had rocked India early with a four-wicket haul but Rohit and R Ashwin associated for an unfinished 198-run partnership for the seventh wicket to take the hosts to 120-run lead by stumps.
India ended the day at 354/6 in 102 overs, thanks to Rohit's 127 not out and Ashwin's undefeated 92.
Sachin Tendulkar, in his 199th and penultimate Test, was wrongly given out LBW by umpire Nigel Llong. But Rohit brought the smiles back on Indian fans' faces.
