Mumbai, Nov 15: It is a known fact that Sachin Tendulkar sets records on the cricket field. But, the Master Blaster has now achieved another milestone on a different platform - off the field and on Twitter.
Tendulkar, who joined the micro-blogging site Twitter in 2010, sent a message on November 13, 2013 (8.50 PM) to his more than 3.8 million followers for supporting him for 24 years. This was on the eve of his final Test.
The tweet read (@sachin_rt): "I am really touched with #ThankYouSachin messages. Your support all these years have inspired me to give my best."
This message has now been retweeted 9,574 times (till 12.17 PM IST, November 15, 2013) and 5,824 have set it as "favourite".
These numbers are a new record for Twitter in India. The official Twitter handle of "Twitter India" (@TwitterIndia) announced on Friday afternoon, "This tweet from Sachin Tendulkar @sachin_rt is now the most RTd tweet of all-time in India."
Today, Tendulkar completed 24 years in international cricket. In his 200th and final Test against West Indies at the Wankhede Stadium, he made 74. His Test debut was on November 15, 1989, when there was no Twitter or Facebook.
The 40-year-old iconic batsman has 3,840,799 followers on Twitter.
The Board of Control in India (BCCI) has launched its own #ThankYouSachin campaign and till now there have been 18,03,388 tweets carrying this hashtag.
Tendulkar is truly a record-breaker - on and off the field.
