Mumbai, Nov 16: Sachin Tendulkar's wife Anjali on Saturday said it will be difficult for her to imagine her husband without cricket after the Master Blaster retires from the sport today.
Tendulkar is playing in his 200th and final Test against West Indies at his home ground - Wankhede Stadium. He missed out on a century but scored a classy 74 on Friday (November 15).
Today will mark the last day in Tendulkar's international cricket. His journey began 24 years ago on November 15, 1989 against Pakistan in Karachi.
Speaking to "Star Sports" at the Wankhede Stadium watching her husband in action for the last time in India shirt, Anjali said it will be an emotional moment today when he walks away from his beloved sport.
"I can imagine cricket without Sachin but I cannot image Sachin without cricket. I don't know what will take the place of cricket in his life," Anjali said.
"I have never seen him switching him off from the game. Even when we are holidaying in England he is always in the switch on mode. He is very conscious about the game and will never eat too much. We will always hit gym and practice with Arjun (son) to stay fit whenever he gets a chance."
She said they were overwhelmed by the support they have got over the last month since Tendulkar announced his decision to quit. "The last one month has been difficult for us," she said.
"I have been really overwhelmed by the response we have received to Sachin's retirement," she said.
Anjali said Sachin was good in hiding his emotions. "Sachin is very good at hiding his emotions. He has never shown that...whether he is tense about big matches... Even at home, he doesn't show his emotions."
She said Sachin belonged to cricket, Mumbai, India and then to the family. "Sachin belongs to cricket, he belongs to Mumbai, India and then he belongs to us," she said.
On how the decision to quit came about, she explained: "He's always said, the minute he feels he can't give a 100 per cent, that will be the time. One day he told me and took the decision. When we were discussing, everything fell in place with the tours in India."
On son Arjun taking up ball boy duties in dada's final Test, she said: "Arjun is among the Mumbai U-14 probables. He had a Harris Shield match on Friday and his father told him that he cannot miss the match at any cost. So Arjun went to the play his school match but found that the other opponents haven't turned up. And so he rushed to the stadium and in the meanwhile his coach had already got the accreditation. So Tendulkar was pleasantly surprised to see Arjun as a ball boy," said Anjali.
On asked whether she would put on sunglasses to hide her emotions today, she said: "I am also good at hiding emotions. Maybe if not today but tomorrow."
Talking about how their children would react, she said: "Sara is very much like her father. She never shows her emotions. Before they were born Tendulkar was already a cricket star. So while growing up they were still figuring what there father was."
Anjali said now she would give some household responsibilities to Sachin.
"Tendulkar is always worried at the paint come out here and there in the house. Hopefully now I will give him some more household responsibilities," she said.
