The 25-year-old right-hander from Delhi started today's match needing 81 to complete 5,000. He reached the mark with a six in his knock of 86. Today's was Kohli's 120th ODI.

Kohli has made rapid strides in international cricket as a ODI batsman. He made his 50-over international debut in 2008 against Sri Lanka. In five years time, he has become one of the best limited overs batsmen.

Former captain Sourav Ganguly was the previous quickest Indian in the 5,000-club. The left-hander needed 126 visits to the crease to reach there.
