Uthappa has been ruled out of this week's match against Haryana in Lahli. He will also miss the team's clash against Punjab (December 14-17). The opener sustained a hamstring injury during Karnataka's victorious outing against Odisha in Cuttack.
On Sunday (December 1), Karnataka won by four wickets against Odisha for their first outright win of the current Ranji Trophy season.
Uthappa sustained injury during fielding in the four-day game in Cuttack and aggravated while batting. The opener has been advised three weeks rest.
The 28-year-old said he is hoping to be fit for Mumbai match in Bangalore (December 22 to 25).
"I will start my rehab work tomorrow. Hopefully I should be fit for the Mumbai game," Uthappa told ThatsCricket today.
Uthappa, who had been out of cricket due to same hamstring injury before the start of Ranji Trophy season, returned for the match against Vidarbha in the last week of November. However, according to the attacking batsman, he aggravated the injury after fielding for 200 overs in that game.
"The fact that I had to field for 200 overs in Nagpur (against Vidarbha) on my return to cricket did not help," Uthappa said.
Vidarbha batted for 197.4 overs in the first innings and scored 542. Uthappa made a 96-ball 86 and Karnataka took the first-innings lead.
In his comeback bid to the Indian team, Uthappa has been stopped temporarily by injury concerns. He will be hoping to construct big scores on return from injury.
