Bangalore, Dec 2: Former India captain Rahul Dravid on Monday said Pravin Tambe deserved to be a part of the Mumbai Ranji Trophy squad and hoped the spinner has a successful run in first-class cricket.
The selectors today picked the 42-year-old Tambe for Ranji Trophy duty for the first time. Tambe played under Dravid's captaincy in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20) for the Rajasthan Royals.
Tambe is part of the 15-man Mumbai squad to play against Jharkhand from December 6. Tambe has not played first-class cricket so far and has featured in only eight T20 games.
When ThatsCricket contacted Dravid for his reaction to Tambe's inclusion, he said he was really happy to see his name in the Mumbai squad.
"I am really happy for him and hope he can have a successful run. He has deserved it," Dravid said.
Legspinner Tambe said he learnt a lot by playing with Dravid. "It was a dream come true for me to play with Rahul Dravid. He is a great person. He helped me a lot during IPL and CLT20. His words inspired me to do well," said Tambe.
