'Stupid' to write off Team India: Duminy

Durban, Dec 7: South Africa batsman JP Duminy on Saturday said it will be "stupid" to write off India in the One Day International series after their massive defeat in the tour opener in Johannesburg on Thursday (December 5).

Duminy was one of the batting stars for the home team as they thrashed India by 141 runs at the Wanderers Stadium. The left-hander hit a quick unbeaten half century while Quinton de Kock scored a ton.

South Africa posted an imposing 358/4 and later bowled MS Dhoni-led team for 217.

The second ODI will be played in Durban tomorrow and Duminy is backing India to comeback into the series.

"It will be naive of us to write them off. There were some bumps and bruises, but like I said, it will be stupid of us to write them off," Duminy was quoted as saying in the South African media.

Duminy said India had become the top-ranked ODI side in the world through continuous performances.

"You only get to the top of the world rankings by putting in continuous performances like they've done, and I'm sure come tomorrow they're going to bounce back, which we'll have to be prepared for. We're going to have to put in another big performance to make sure we go 2-0 up," he added.

On his team's showing in the opening ODI, he said: "Yes, the guys were really geared up for the challenge (in the first ODI). Beating India was going to be a challenge, especially with the form they brought into the series. So we were pretty fired up to start the series well, especially with a short three-game series. We're pretty pleased to have done that."
