Perth, Dec 12: Australia all-rounder James Faulkner has been ruled out of the third Ashes Test against England starting tomorrow at the WACA ground.
In a media statement, Cricket Australia (CA) said that Faulkner had suffered a fractured right thumb after he was struck on the hand while batting in the nets during training at WACA Ground in Perth today.
Australian team doctor Peter Brukner said, "James was struck on the right thumb while batting in the nets and was subsequently taken for an x-ray which revealed a fracture of the thumb. As a result he will not be available for the third Test. His progress will be monitored for a return to playing duty depending on how quickly the injury heals."
Faulkner, however, will remain with the squad in Perth. Australia lead the five-match series 2-0.
