Mumbai, Jan 9: It was a special Ranji Trophy game for the Gavaskar family on Wednesday (January 8). The father and son duo of Sunil and Rohan shared the commentary box for the quarter-final game between Mumbai and Maharashtra at the Wankhede Stadium.
For Sunil Gavaskar, yesterday's match was debut in Ranji Trophy for TV commentary. The legendary opener was in as a commentator for a domestic cricket match for the first time, on Star Sports. He was joined by son Rohan and both had on air stint yesterday, the first day of the match.
Today too, they were seen together for commentary. It will be the case for the next three days.
On his experience of getting behind the microphone with son Rohan, Gavaskar Senior was quoted by "DNA" newspaper as saying, "For a change, I could actually pull someone's legs and get away with it. Generally, when I am doing it at the international level, my fellow commentator can come back at me. Over here, that was the big plus as I could pull his leg and get away."
Speaking to the same newspaper, Rohan said: "It was a lot of fun sharing the mike with him. It was great. It was not just a conversation (between father and son) on air. You are commentating on the game and it is completely different from the other chats we have at home because of the circumstances and the situation."
Rohan, who played for India in One Day Internationals, is a regular member of the commentary team for domestic games.
