Simmons blasts record 39-ball century
Perth, Jan 16: Left-handed opening batsman Craig Simmons on Thursday blasted the fastest century in Big Bash League (BBL) Twenty20 tournament.

With the Indian Premier League (IPL 7) Player Auction scheduled for next month in Bangalore, this effort from Simmons will surely be noted.

The 31-year-old Simmons, playing for Perth Scorchers against Adelaide Strikers at the WACA Stadium today, hit a century off 39 balls to register the fastest three-figure mark in domestic T20 cricket in Australia.

Simmons smashed 8 sixes and an equal number of fours on his way to 102 off 41 deliveries. Scorchers scored 203/7 in 20 overs. In reply, Strikers came close but lost by 5 runs (198/6 in 20 overs).

The batsman from New South Wales, had never scored a half century in his previous 8 T20 games. His best before today was 39.

Simmons reached his record hundred in the 12th over of the innings after Scorchers won the toss and elected to bat.

Soon after his century, the micor-blogging site Twitter was abuzz with praises for the left-hander.

Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell called it an "unbelievable effort".

"That was serious hitting from Simmons!! Bringing a hundred up in the 12th over is an unbelievable effort!!," Maxwell wrote on his Twitter page.

Australia opener Aaron Finch said it was an "amazing knock."

"What an amazing knock!," he tweeted.
