Maharashtra paceman Samad Fallah destroys Bengal

Indore, Jan 18: Left-arm paceman Samad Fallah took seven wickets to put Maharashtra in control against Bengal on the first day of the five-day Ranji Trophy semi-final here Saturday.

The 28-year-old Fallah destroyed Bengal batting with bowling figures of 7/58 in 16.4 overs at the Holkar Cricket Stadium.

Fallah's superb spell of bowling bundled out Bengal for a paltry 114 in 41.4 overs after Maharashtra captain Rohit Motwani won the toss and chose to field.

At stumps on the opening day, Maharashtra had taken a 50-run lead, finishing with 164/4 in 44 overs.

Mahrashtra opener Chirag Khurana made 48 while their mainstay this season, Kedar Jadhav scored 40. Ankit Bawne (37) and Motwani (8) are at the crease. Ashok Dinda and Laxmi Ratan Shukla took two wickets apiece.

Only four Bengal batsmen managed to register double-digit scores earlier in the day. Opener Arindam Das was the topscorer with 37.
