Napier, Jan 19: Virat Kohli, with his 18th century in One Day Internationals today, has joined Mark Waugh and on the way surpassed Gautam Gambhir.
With his another masterclass hundred, Kohli equalled former Australian batsman Waugh and moved to ninth position in all-time century-makers in ODI history.
The 25-year-old hit yet another ton in a run-chase, this time against New Zealand in the first ODI at the McLean Park here on Sunday.
This was Kohli's 12th century in run-chases. All previous 11 had ended in India's victories but today it went in vain, in his 126th match.
At this rate, Kohli will soon match Brian Lara, who is at 19 centuries.
With today's knock of 111-ball 123, Kohli overtook Gambhir and moved to ninth in India's most run-makers in ODIs. Gambhir has scored 5,238 runs in 147 matches. Kohli (5277) moved ahead of his Delhi team-mate.
