Napier, Jan 19: Captain MS Dhoni on Sunday became only the fourth wicketkeeper and first Indian in One Day Internationals to complete 300 dismissals.
Dhoni joined the elite club of 300 or more dismissals by a stumper during the first ODI against New Zealand at McLean Park stadium here today. He now has 221 catches and 79 stumpings in the 50-over format.
In the 37th over of the New Zealand innings, Dhoni took a catch to dismiss Ross Taylor off Mohammad Shami.
The 32-year-old joins Adam Gilchrist (472), Mark Boucher (424) and Kumar Sangakkara (424) in the special 300 company.
Dhoni, who made his ODI debut in 2004 against Bangladesh, claimed his 300th victim behind the stumps in 239th match. His first dismissal came in the second match, against Bangladesh when he caught Nafees Iqbal off Ajit Agarkar on December 26, 2004.
In 81 Tests, Dhoni has 219 catches and 37 stumpings.
