New Delhi, Jan 21: For the first time in the brief history of Indian Premier League (IPL), Virender Sehwag will be part of the Player Auction. And the opener is hoping he will again be part of Delhi Daredevils or get to open with his 'best' partner Gautam Gambhir at Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
For the seventh edition of IPL (IPL 7), Daredevils chose not to retain any of their players. They have released all big names including David Warner, Kevin Pietersen and Sehwag.
Now, at next month's Player Auction, Sehwag will be lined up with other stars. There is speculation that Sehwag, who is currently not in the best of form, might not be bought by Daredevils.
Gambhir was one of the two players retained by KKR. The KKR captain and West Indies' spinner Sunil Narine were the two who the team management preferred to hold on to.
Stating that he missed opening the batting with Gambhir for India, Sehwag told "NDTV" that he hoped he could team up again at the top of the order with the left-hander in IPL.
"Yes (I miss opening with Gambhir). Gautam is my best partner as opener in Test cricket and one day cricket. Because we both are from Delhi and we have a lot of respect for each other. We spend a lot of time outside cricket also. That helps. We share lot of things... what to do... when to do," Sehwag told the TV channel today.
"I am going to the (IPL) auction this time and anybody can buy me. Hopefully somebody buys me and Gautam is there or some other international cricketer is there. I will get a chance to play alongwith them," he added.
Having been out of the Indian team for more than a year now, Sehwag is hoping to return to play at the international level before retiring.
"Hopefully I will get one more chance (to play for India) before I retire," he said.
