Ravishankar, who hails from Karnataka's Bhadravathi, is now part of the America's 5-man umpiring panel.
He and four others (one more of Indian origin) will get to officiate in ICC events. They will stand in internationals involving ICC Associate and Affiliate member countries. And also have a chance to officiate in women tournaments, Under-15, 17 and 19 tournaments in ICC Associate countries.
The ICC America's have launched an initiative to help support the cricket umpires of the America's Region in their pursuit of further development and representation at ICC Events.
Umpires from across the America's Region have been identified to form a panel who will be appointed to ICC Events and also be expected to act as role models within the cricket environment of the Americas for the future.
Mohamed S. Baksh, Roan McFarlane, Sylvan Taylor and Sameer Bandekar are the other four umpires chosen for the development programme.
"I am delighted and fortunate to be one of the five-member team representing USA to ICC America's panel," Ravishankar, who is based in Fremont, California, told ThatsCricket.
"This was a long awaiting ambition in my life. We went through West Indies Cricket Umpires Association (WICUA) examination 2 levels and lot of training session," he added.
In the 2011 WICUA Oral and Practical Examination, Ravishankar was one of the top performers with scores of 96%.
Ravishankar said he is the first from Karnataka to be part of the ICC America's Panel.
"Also I am proud to say, I am the first Kannadiga representing USA to ICC America's panel," he said.
Ravishankar is also a qualified scorer from USA Cricket Umpires Association (USACUA) and WICUA. He is also a qualified umpire, scorer and a life member of Cricket Umpires Karnataka (ACUK) since 1992.
He is actively involved in USA national tournaments and Northern California Cricket Leagues.
Ravishankar, who is an engineer by profession, played for VISL (Steel Authority of India Limited) in Division 1 from 1992 to 96.
He is currently Assistant Secretary in USA Cricket Umpires Association.
