Wellington, Feb 18: In one of the lows in Indian cricket, young paceman Ishant Sharma was caught on camera abusing veteran speedster Zaheer Khan during the second Test against New Zealand at Basin Reserve here on Monday.
Frustrated at the world record partnership between Brendon McCullum and BJ Watling, Ishant used expletives at Zaheer for being slow to retrieve the ball in the deep.
During the fourth day's play on Monday (February 17), as McCullum played a delivery from Ishant towards deep square-leg, Zaheer was slow in reaching the ball as the batting duo took three runs.
As Ishant walked back to his bowling mark, he hurled vulgar words at Zaheer. The words were captured on the stump microphone at the non-striker's end and broadcast live on TV.
McCullum and Watling put on a world record 352-run partnership for the sixth wicket. McCullum went on to register a triple hundred while Watling scored a ton.
The Test match ended in a draw today. New Zealand won the series 1-0.
This on-field episode will certainly be not forgotten by the fans. It maybe recalled that Ravindra Jadeja had abused Suresh Raina after the latter failed to take a catch during a ODI against the West Indies in the Caribbean last year.
