Gambhir-led Delhi refuse to shake hands

New Delhi, Mar 7: Services captain Yashpal Singh today was "terribly hurt" by the behaviour of the Delhi team after the Gautam Gambhir-led side refused to shake hands with the winning team on Thursday (March 6).

The entire Services team waited at the ground for at-least half an hour for the customary after-match handshake but none of the Delhi players, save top-scorer Jagrit Anand, came out to congratulate them.

Most of the players sneaked out of the rear entrance of the Feroz Shah Kotla dressing room in order to avoid questions from the waiting media-persons.

"What kind of behaviour is this? We waited for them to shake hands with us as it is a norm. Neither the captain nor the coach had the basic courtesy to come out and congratulate us. And mind it, this is not the first time that we got this behaviour from Delhi.

"A few seasons back, we defeated them in Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 at Kotla and they did the same thing. Agreed we are players of smaller stature but we can expect at least this much self respect from them," an upset Yashpal said after the match.

"Personally, it hurts me even more that I have played in the North Zone team alongside some of the players," said Yashpal, who scored 75 on the day.

Two of the star performers Rajat Paliwal and Abhishek Sakuja lauded the team effort as the key to such convincing win.

"I had played club cricket with Gautam bhaiyya at LB Shastri Club. I knew his weak areas and it helped a lot as the delivery I got him out turned and stopped on him," left-arm spinner Sakuja said.

While no one from Delhi team management came on record, a source close to skipper Gambhir said that Ishant Sharma and Ashish Nehra were both injured today although nature of the injuries were not known.
