Uthappa and Nair take Karnataka to semis

Kolkata, Mar 11: Centuries from Robin Uthappa and Karun Nair helped Karnataka beat Gujarat by 27 runs and enter the semi-finals of the Vijay Hazare Trophy one-day tournament here at Jadavpur University ground on Tuesday.

Sent to bat first in the quarter-final game, Karnataka were in deep trouble at 31/4 in 6.3 overs. At this stage, opener Uthappa was joined by Nair and the duo shared a 209-run match-changing partnership for the fifth wicket.

Karnataka scored 301/7 in 50 overs after tons from Uthappa and Nair. The right-handed Nair had walked into bat to face the hat-trick ball from KamleshThakor.

Uthappa scored 132 not out off 134 balls with 10 fours and 3 sixes while Nair made 120 off 121 with 14 boundaries and a six. For Gujarat, paceman Jasprit Bumrah took four wickets for 58.

Chasing 302, Gujarat were bowled out for 274 in 48.2 overs. Karnataka captain R Vinay Kumar (4/80) and Abhimanyu Mithun (4/50) were the stars with the ball.

Akshar Patel was the top scorer for Gujarat with 93 (78 balls, 13x4). Rujul Bhatt made 68.
